They will primarily decide the political strength and the future of its leadership.

For the first time since his re-election, PASOK’s president faces with an environment of intense questioning, expressed not only by political opponents but also by cadres who are watching with concern the stagnation of the figures and the party’s inability to form a convincing power dynamic.

The message the polls are sending is clear: PASOK fails to capitalise on the government’s decay, nor to appear as the obvious alternative to governing. Instead, in several polls it gives the image of a party that is still searching for its footing, while at the same time seeing new political formations and individuals claiming space in the same electoral audience.

In this environment, Nikos Androulakis seems to be facing an informal period of political testing.

No one is officially raising the issue of leadership today. But everyone understands that if the party’s image does not improve markedly in the coming period, the currently hushed conversations will begin to be openly expressed. Politics is inexorable in the face of prolonged negative results, and the history of PASOK is full of examples of leaderships that were challenged when expectations were not confirmed.

The PASOK president knows that the next quarter may be the last big opportunity to regain the political initiative of movements. If he fails to present a party with a clear identity, a unified discourse and upward momentum, then the internal pressure will become suffocating. Simply put, it remains to be seen if there is any hope of putting PASOK on an upward trajectory. If this trajectory does not appear, the debate on the next day will inevitably open up.

At the same time, a second front continues to give Charilaou Trikoupis a headache. And his name is Charis Doukas.

The mayor of Athens continues to be a special case for PASOK’s inner circle. On the one hand he has a strong publicity and institutional role. On the other hand, his frequent interventions and public statements are interpreted as differentiations from the official line and cause irritation to a large part of the party leadership.

Nowadays, several cadres believe that the room for tolerance has been drastically reduced. More than a few believe that the leadership has consciously chosen to avoid extreme conflicts in order to avoid creating the image of an internal party civil war. But this tactic cannot continue indefinitely.

There are voices in Charilaou Trikoupis who believe that every new public differentiation by the mayor of Athens removes political capital from the party and creates confusion among voters. For this reason, the assessment of many is that the next serious “dissonance” will not be met with mere recommendations or leaks of dissatisfaction.

The political message being sent in all directions is that the period of tolerance is coming to an end.

Any new move that is perceived as undermining the collective line or as a personal strategy against the backdrop of future internal party developments is likely to trigger a chain reaction.

The problem for PASOK is that it cannot afford to appear divided at a time when it is struggling to convince society that it is a credible alternative to power. Every internal conflict, every personal agenda and every public confrontation acts as a multiplier of political attrition.

So the next quarter will not only be crucial for Nikos Androulakis. It will be equally critical for Harry Doukas. The former is called upon to prove that he can lead the party on a path of recovery. The second is called upon to decide whether to move within the limits of the collective strategy or to continue on a course that causes constant tremors.

In any case, the political thermometer in PASOK is rising dangerously. And when the polls are under pressure, balances become fragile, personal ambitions become acute and decisions take on the character of survival. The autumn may prove decisive for many. But especially for those who currently hold or are claiming the keys to the next day in PASOK.

PASOK is entering one of the most critical political quarters of its modern course and Nikos Androulakis is with it.
The next few months will not …

[3

post-9850","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
