Conversely, those articles that now receive 151 votes will need an increased majority of 180 votes to be approved by the next Parliament.

Dora Bakoyannis warned that “the next Parliament unfortunately looks set to be even more dysfunctional and that we will have anti-systemic parties in its composition”. The key question, as she posed it, is this: “What do we prefer for the next election, at least those of us who count ourselves among the democratic, institutional political forces of the country? Do we prefer to leave the crucial number of 180 positive votes to the next parliament, which will probably have a stronger anti-systemic and populist representation than the current one? Will it be easier for serious institutional parties to come together when they have less power than the present one?”

Bakoyannis, addressing PASOK in particular, asked “Really, do you think that after the elections you will be more influential in the revision as a second or fourth party?”

Bakoyani to PASOK on Constitutional Review: “Do we prefer to leave the crucial number of 180 MPs for the next Parliament, which will probably have stronger anti-systemic and populist representation? This is the way and the process set out in the constitution.”

The constitution requires consents and agreements

Mrs. Bakoyannis stressed that “the constitution requires consensus and agreements” and added that “it is logical that the opposition does not trust the government of the day, but when we discuss the constitution we must make the effort of consensus and agreement because this is what the constitution itself and the Greek people require”.

As for the opposition’s view that “we will not agree to support the proposals of the Southwest from the beginning” in order not to give a “blank cheque” to the next government to proceed with the changes as it wishes, Ms. Bakoyannis responded politically, as she said, saying that “the fear that after the elections, the Southwest will co-govern with parties that have a strong anti-systemic footprint or extreme discourse, so that in the revision, anti-systemic or extreme views will prevail, is not justified as the Southwest has made it clear that there is no, but no, case to co-govern with an extreme right-wing or left-wing party. This has been made clear by its leader in all tones and the entire South West’s CO agrees. So no semicolon, no asterisk on this issue.” On the contrary, Bakoyannis added, for those who have such a fear, the next Parliament will unfortunately be even more dysfunctional and we will have anti-systemic parties in its composition.

The ND MP pointed out that in Europe, “parties are trying to prevent the erosion of democracy by expelling antisystemic parties”and cited Germany and France as typical examples of self-protection from this danger and said that “we should do the same now in relation to a next chaotic Parliament.”

Dora Bakoyannis sent a message to PASOK to show institutional seriousness instead of revolutionary gymnastics.

“The Greek people do not …

[3

post-9912","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-politics
["GET
