The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis<\/b>, describes a highly complex and cross-border threat field under the microscope of the security authorities<\/b>, with investigations focusing on possible links between the cases<\/b> that have been recorded in Crete and Cyprus<\/b> and to broader networks with a presence in multiple European countries<\/b>. As from the evidence reviewed, the operational picture that is emerging is not limited to isolated incidents<\/b>, but points to structures with international characteristics and possible organisational continuity<\/b>, which has meant an increased level of mobilisation of the relevant services<\/b>. In this context, the authorities are attempting to fully map the range of possible connections<\/b>, examining all available data linked to persons<\/b>, movements and networks of influence at European level<\/b>.<\/p>\n
The intensification of controls for road safety<\/b>, operations against organised crime, the management of domestic violence<\/b> and concerns about new terrorist threats in the wake of the cases in Crete<\/b> and Cyprus<\/b> were highlighted by Political Protection Minister Michael Chrysochoidis<\/b>, speaking on SKAI 100.3, while he announced the creation of five new domestic violence offices in Attica<\/b>.<\/p>\n

What is happening now is that one in four accidents is a drifting accident, that is, they drag pedestrians and this is because they are driving with their mobile phone in their hand and they don’t pay enough attention while driving and they drag people who are walking on the road.”<\/p>\n
Two out of five accidents are two-wheelers, so two out of five deaths in road accidents are from two-wheelers, one is drifting and the rest are on country roads, so now the accidents are happening in an urban environment.<\/p>\n

As you can see every day now criminal organizations are being dismantled, whether they are related to financial crime or they are related to goons and blackmailers or they are related to a series or they are related to sports violence or they are related to general crimes, homicides which really offend social peace.<\/p>\n
Let’s stay broadly on the central issue which is the security of the country and political issues. It is obvious based on the information that has been gathered and based on the conclusions that the authorities have drawn in recent days from this case in Crete and Cyprus, I understand that there is, a new danger is being created. The concept of the lone wolf is a myth, there is no such thing as a lone wolf, that is, someone who is alone and locked up in a house or anything else cannot be able to organise a terrorist act on his own, and this requires heavy support. It is a network of an organised criminal terrorist group which is attempting to export to organise terrorist acts in Europe, it is a network which seems to have a training centre in Malaysia seems to be made up of people who are scattered all over Europe and I stress this.<\/p>\n
It really takes a lot of effort so that where there is a delinquent child the juvenile prosecutor and the police and the school and the parent intervene and if the parent does not want to then there is the criminal treatment.<\/p>\n
Last year we had 8 genocides, this year so far we have 5, we have less, last year we had around 8,000 complaints in the first quarter, this year we have around 5.500 complaints, we have fewer complaints, so it seems slowly that it is slowly going to be curtailed not out of conscience but out of fear I am sure that those who engage in violence are rethinking it and are afraid.<\/p>\n
We are talking about 13,000 arrests made last year in the context of domestic violence, 22,000 complaints,13,000 people were arrested, mostly men, were arrested for domestic violence. <\/p>\n
We have given panic buttons to thousands of women, there is a safe house in every area if a woman needs to go with her child, her children or her parents, there are forensic doctors, psychiatrists to support victims, there are severe penalties. Around 600 in prison are for domestic violence, pre-trial detainees or convicts, 13,000 arrested 600 are in prison pre-trial detainees mainly for domestic violence, things have changed and in every region there is a domestic violence office in every prefecture here in Attica we have 7 and I announce today that we will have 5 more in Attica, 5 more in Attica in different places because the existing ones are far from each other so that the whole of Attica is covered.<\/p>\n
DEM: The police officers who didn’t do their job with that girl who was slaughtered outside the police station, were they punished?<\/p>\n
CHRYS: Yes, they were punished… anyway they are being charged right now by the prosecutor who has charged them with serious charges and they will be tried as scheduled.
But on the other hand, thousands of police officers right now are at the disposal of millions of women.<\/p>\n
I say that corruption is a constant evil in all societies in all administrations and there must be institutions, first of all institutions, strong institutions and secondly institutions of repression. <\/p>\n
In this department where there is and present an excellent appellate prosecutor along with the police officers who run the department and the police officers who make up and constitute this department, all of them have arrested over 150 police officers in 2025 and they are continuing now, they have arrested dozens of public officials, public officials of other departments and very many also private individuals who are involved along with public officials. So, therefore, this agency is highlighting the issue of corruption.<\/p>\n
There are policemen on the trains, 450 policemen here in Attica, there are on the electric train, on the buses, in western Attica. There are buses, western Athens, western Attica, buses on which from 8 in the morning until 1-2 at night there are police officers on the buses, 450 police officers, on the trains, on the suburban, on the electric and on the metro. <\/p>\n
We passed a law a year ago where anybody who is a recidivist is not out, but anybody who is a recidivist and is a recidivist and re-offends is now in custody and in that direction too many people have been in custody.<\/p>\n
We have installed police officers inside the settlements, here in Attica there are 130 police officers inside the settlements of all the settlements of Western Attica and Eastern Attica, in Koropi etc. and they patrol daily in order to ensure the safety of the people there and the safety of the surrounding areas, the residents. And this concerns all of Greece. All the Roma settlements in Greece have police officers inside the settlements. <\/p>\n
We are doing a program now of protection and policing of the bus routes with the condition of course that very immediately, we have already invited OASA to mark them, to be distinct so that they can be policed. <\/p>\n
