So, everyone except the New Republic, likes immigrants to “bask”;
According to a post by the Minister of Immigration Thanos Plevris, the provision that provides for the possibility of creating closed detention centres in third countries, including in African countries, was only voted for by New Democracy MPs. All other parties voted against.
And here a legitimate political question arises: if you reject the transfer and detention of illegal immigrants to third countries, then what exactly is your alternative? Staying in Greece?
At a time when in many European countries the migration issue is at the center of public debate and social pressure is rising, the Greek government claims that it is looking for ways to curb illegal flows and manage a problem that goes beyond the Greek borders.
Do the voters of the parties that voted against this provision share the attitude of their representatives? And those who daily blame Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the immigration situation, do they think that rejecting such measures leads to a tighter or a looser policy?
Finally, votes in parliament say more than slogans. And citizens deserve to know what solution each party proposes for one of the biggest issues facing the country today.
