With the mayors of Pavlos Melas, Dimitris Aslanidis, and Lefteris Alexandridis, met today with the Minister of Infrastructure and TransportChristos Dimas.

Among other things, the focus was on school housing issues, flood control projectsurban renewal as well as the extension of the Metro toward the west Thessaloniki.

Mr. Dimas first visited the Pavlos Melas City Hall with Mr. Aslanidis to convey the request for the construction of a new high school in Nikopolis, which will also serve some of the students from Evosmos who live above the ring road. At the same time, the mayor emphasized the need for flood protection on Agia Marina, Iatrou Gogousi, and Ierapostolou Kosma streets. “These three areas flood frequently. These are flood protection projects that will save homes, families, and property. The studies are ready,” said Mayor Pavlos Melas, while regarding Nikopolis, he pointed out to Mr. Dimas that the area has over 18,000 residents and the construction of the high school is essential.

The minister, for his part, requested an update on the progress of four of the seventeen schools being built through a public-private partnership (PPP) in the municipality of Pavlos Melas, with Mr. Aslanidis informing him that they will be ready to open and welcome students for the new school year.

Subsequently, Mr. Dimas visited the city hall in Evosmos, where Mayor Alexandridis briefed him on all the projects currently underway by the municipal authority, but primarily on the school facilities.

As the mayor said, the 25th Elementary School on Makrygianni Street will be ready in October, while he provided a detailed analysis of both the expansion of street lighting beyond the ring road and the stadium and swimming pool in the area, for which the design studies have been completed.

Mr. Alexandridis also raised the issue of securing funding to complete the aforementioned sports park, which has remained unfinished for approximately 20 years, while there was also discussion regarding the extension of the Metro to western Thessaloniki, in order to serve the needs of the residents and workers of Evosmos and Eleftherios Kordeliou.
