The extension of the Thessaloniki Metro to Kalamaria is scheduled for completion in July.

Service continues on the Metro Thessaloniki to Kalamaria, which will be put into operation at the end of July, as emphasized by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, following a meeting with the leadership of “Hellenic Metro” and executives of the contractor consortium.

Over the past 3 months, we have really accelerated the pace of work at all 5 stations. We are very satisfied with the progress of the work,” he emphasized.

Testing is proceeding at a very good pace; we have had very good results so far, and we expect that by the end of July, the five additional Metro stations will be opened for commercial use,” stated the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.

He added that the temporary suspension of Metro operations was necessary to conduct the required tests and obtain the necessary international certifications, as the extension to Kalamaria involves the connection of two systems. “Only minor construction work remains, and most systems have been fully installed, tested, and are operational, but they must be 100% ready,” emphasized Mr. Dimas.

The minister also referred to the Flyover, according to voria.gr: “We can now see both forms being poured with concrete. It is a pioneering project not only for Thessaloniki or Greece, it is an innovative project by European standards, which will truly greatly help ensure smoother traffic flow in the city of Thessaloniki and beyond. The timeline remains unchanged; it is about a year from now, give or take a little.

From then on, I think that all Thessalonians and visitors who pass by the ring road every day will see the progress of the work and realize how quickly it is nearing completion. Of course, we all look forward to its opening to traffic so that it can further alleviate the existing traffic congestion,” he stated, adding that the goal is to deliver it in the first half of 2027.
