The “Prolaivo” program is entering a new phase starting September 1, as announced by the Deputy Minister of Health Eirini Agapidakis.

The current cycle of the Program, which is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund, concludes on June 30, 2026. Subsequently, by August 31, 2026, all necessary administrative, financial, and technical procedures for closing the projects and actions funded by the Recovery Fund will be completed.

For this reason, all referrals already issued under the current cycle of the “Prolavano” program will be carried out through June 30, 2026.

Ms. Agapidakis urges citizens who have received a referral not to postpone their examinations and to immediately schedule their appointment with a participating provider.

She also informs participating healthcare providersto continue serving the public as usual until June 30, 2026, and to complete all scheduled procedures for conducting and recording the exams in a timely manner, in accordance with the instructions they will receive.

Specifically, the “Prolavano” program will resume on September 1, 2026, with the issuance of new referrals, and will continue until the end of 2030.

“Prevention is now becoming a permanent national policy. Our goal is for every citizen, wherever they live, whatever their income, insured or uninsured, to have access to free, organized, and reliable preventive screenings. Because every person has one life. The State has a duty to provide them with the tools to live it in health, quality, dignity, and safety. Prevention saves lives. “Prolavano” continues. It continues stronger, more organized, and closer to every citizen,” emphasizes Ms. Agapidakis.

She notes that the National Prevention Program “Prolavano” is perhaps the most significant reform undertaken in recent years in Public Health.

“For the first time, our country has acquired an organized, digital, and free prevention system that does not wait for citizens to take action, but invites them in a timely manner to get their checkups. With a simple text message, using digital referrals, and at no cost, millions of our fellow citizens have undergone preventive screenings for serious diseases, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, cardiovascular diseases, kidney dysfunction, and adult obesity.

“Prolavo” has proven in practice that prevention saves lives. Above all, it has changed the culture of prevention in Greece. It made prevention simpler, more accessible, more equitable, and more effective,” notes Ms. Agapidakis.
