The Minister of State, Akis Skertsos, launched a new attack against the opposition, accusing the parties of having no concrete proposal to strengthen development, investment and the economy as a whole.

In a post, the government official argued that the fundamental difference between the government and the opposition parties is that “none of them has a proposal to increase the country’s GDP and grow the economy and investment.”

At the same time, he directed his criticism at the opposition parties regarding their promises of benefits, noting that “they have already begun promising benefits using money that does not exist.”

He also referred to the elections, writing characteristically: “They have already started promising benefits from money that doesn’t exist instead of asking themselves this simple question: ‘Why did the New Democracy party’s realistic and responsible 8-billion-euro government program win out over SYRIZA’s irresponsible and uncosted 80-billion-euro program in 2023?’”

Akis Skertsos also argued that social policy can only be based on a strong economic foundation and increased wealth creation.

“Let’s say it again, then, so they can really get it: social policy requires growth and investment.”

He went on to explain that without an increase in economic activity, there can be no additional funding for critical sectors such as health, education, transportation, and defense.

“In order to be able to allocate more money to health, education, transportation, and defense, you must have a proposal to increase the ‘pie’ without creating new deficits or increasing the debt.”

Concluding his post, the Minister of State took a jab at PASOK, SYRIZA, and the other opposition parties, stating:  “It is sad that after 10 years of studying the PASOK memoranda, SYRIZA and other parties have still not learned this lesson. Growth first, then redistribution. It’s elementary.”
