The New Democracy is undergoing an internal reorganization, seeking to renew the party apparatus and strengthen control over its organizations nationwide.
At the meeting of the new Political Committee, held under Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the new Executive Secretariat was elected, while significant changes to the National Organization Regulations were also approved.
During the meeting, Konstantinos Kyranakis was unanimously elected as the new secretary of the Political Committee, and the new Executive Secretariat of the New Democracy party was formed.
Who was elected to the new Executive Secretariat
In the Political Committee vote, four parliamentary and four non-parliamentary members were elected, who, together with the ex officio members, form the new party body.
The parliamentary members are:
- Maria-Alexandra Kefala
- Athanasios Papathanasis
- Stavros Papasotiriou
- Asimina Skondra
The following were elected as non-parliamentary members:
- Panagiotis Palpanas
- Christina Patrikakou
- George Tsakoumis
- Konstantinos Tsiangliotis
The Executive Secretariat also includes, as ex officio members, the president of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the vice-presidents Kostis Hatzidakis and Adonis Georgiadis, the secretary of the Political Committee Konstantinos Kyranakis, the General Secretary of the Parliamentary Group Maximos Harakopoulos, the General Director Yannis Smyrlis, the parliamentary spokesperson Dimitris Kairidis and the president of ONNED Orpheas Georgiou.
Changes to the regulations and mergers of organizations
The Political Committee also approved amendments to the Regulations of the Pan-Hellenic Organization</, emphasizing the restructuring of the party apparatus and the improved functioning of organizations throughout the country.
Among other things, the creation of Regional Coordinating Bodies is planned, to ensure more direct oversight and coordination at the regional level.
At the same time, it was decided to merge the DIM.TO. operating in the capitals of the Regional Units with the corresponding D.E.E.P., with the exception of the Attica Region and the Regional or Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki. The change will take effect starting with the next internal party elections.
The amendments also include the abolition of incompatibilities and disqualifications for eligibility for elected officials of Local Government A’ and second-level local government who wish to participate in the elected bodies of DEEP and DIMTO.
