Clashes broke out this afternoon near the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland between protesters and police during a march against the G7, on the eve of the Group of Seven summit in Evian, France.
Journalists from the French Press Agency reported that protesters threw bottles, rocks, pieces of concrete, and firecrackers at police, who responded with tear gas.
Protesters set fire to a Tesla car and smashed windows at United Nations offices. Other buildings were also targeted by the protesters, including the offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers and the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Approximately 20,000 people gathered for a march that was initially peaceful. The protesters said they had gathered to protest against the G7, which they view as a symbol of concentrated political and economic power.
