The highest subsidy rate applies to homes in mountainous and island regions, as well as households belonging to vulnerable social groups, such as large and single-parent families and people with disabilities.

Eligible recipients

Eligibility applies to residences with a building permit that was issued by the end of 1990, with a floor area of up to 120 square meters. For families with three or more children, the limit increases to 150 square meters.

In addition, the residences must fall into energy class C, not have been included in a similar program after January 1, 2020, and not be registered under a short-term lease arrangement.

Homes that either remain vacant during the 2024–2025 period or are occupied are eligible for the program.

Applications will be evaluated in stages. Priority will be given to applications for lower subsidy amounts, followed by applications approaching the maximum subsidy limit of 36,000 euros.

Five things you need to know

1. Properties used or intended for short-term rental are excluded from the program.

2. The Certificate of Eligibility does not constitute approval of funding. The final decision will be made after the submission of the complete application and the review of the supporting documents.

3. Applications will be reviewed in order of priority. Initially, priority will be given to vacant properties, followed by occupied residences. In addition, applications with a lower requested subsidy amount are expected to be prioritized in the evaluation.

4. The energy performance certificate (EPC) and the electronic building ID are critical and may create obstacles to the completion of the application.

5. The subsidy is not paid directly to the owner, but through a special escrow account and is released gradually to pay for work and suppliers. To receive the first installment, the beneficiary must have covered part of their own contribution via the banking system.
