Speaking on the TF1 television network, Emmanuel Macron stated that France does not wish to impose fees in favor of Oman and Iran for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

As he noted, such a measure would set a precedent that could affect other strategically important maritime passages in various regions of the world, resulting in an increase in the cost of maritime transport and prices worldwide.

The French president also stressed that the imposition of tolls is not consistent with the principles of international law, emphasizing that France remains committed to defending the international rules governing free navigation.

At the same time, he noted that the issue of so-called “service fees,” which was added to the agreement at the last minute, is not currently the most urgent priority. According to him, the main objective is the fullreopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the restoration of shipping in the region.

“The priority is to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, so that ships and tankers can set sail and the crews who have been trapped here for months can be freed,” he noted.

Referring to the agreement between the United States and Iran, Macron stated that it has already been signed electronically. He added that the relevant annexes to the agreement are expected to be signed on Friday, emphasizing the need to move forward immediately with its implementation.

“Everything must be done in the coming hours and days to turn the agreement into reality,” the French president said.
