In light of the critical situation, a government delegation is traveling to Chania for on-site briefings and coordination with the relevant authorities, with a focus on the operation of the temporary accommodation facility in Agia and the assessment of the pressure on local services.
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains particularly strained, with the continuous arrivals testing the resilience of the reception facilities and local authorities, while according to the report by ERTnews.gr, the mobilization of the relevant services is ongoing, with the aim of immediately managing the flows and relieving the pressure on temporary accommodation sites.
The visit
Twenty-nine migrants who were rescued early this morning off the coast of Gavdos by a private Danish-flagged vessel and were initially takento the port of Souda.
They consist of 28 men and one woman from Sudan and Bangladesh. According to reports, there are currently 142 migrants temporarily staying on Gavdos, having been rescued in various operations over the past few days.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the Minister of Migration and Asylum, Thanos Plevris, —accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum and Member of Parliament for Chania, Sevi Voloudaki—to visit the Agia facility and learn about its operations. He will then participate in a meeting on migration in the Chania sub-region.
