Dimitris Kairidis commented on the new poll results that place Alexis Tsipras in second place, while questioning his ability to serve as a credible alternative leader.
Dimitris Kairidis, a member of parliament for New Democracy, Dimitris Kairidis, referring to the findings of the latest public opinion polls and the reappearance of Alexis Tsipras on the political scene, and offering a stern assessment of the former prime minister’s poll numbers and political trajectory.
Mr. Kairidis noted that, despite the obvious realignment of forces on the center-left, the momentum of the new initiative still falls short of his previous electoral performances. As he pointedly noted, “Tsipras is clearly in second place, with a lower percentage than when he left. He left with 18%, disheartened, and is now at his best at 14%”.
Continuing his remarks, the New Democracy MP expressed strong doubts about whether the Greek people can once again trust a figure who has been associated with successive electoral defeats against the current government. Raising a crucial question about the future of the political system, he stated: “What is the poll trying to tell us—that the alternative candidate will be Tsipras? He was defeated in 2019, in 2023, and in every contest against Mitsotakis”.
Concluding his remarks, Dimitris Kairidis focused on the 2015 period of governance, arguing that Mr. Tsipras has not assumed historical and economic responsibility for the choices made that year, which came at a very heavy cost to citizens. “He bears the heavy burden of the original sin of 2015. For which he has offered no explanation. Through which he burdened the Greek people with 100 billion, according to the documentary,” the MP concluded.
