The news that the head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Laura Kovesi, appealed to the plenary session of the Supreme Court, requesting that the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council to extend the terms of the three Greek European Prosecutors by two years be overturned, Poppy Papandreou, Charikleia Thanou and Dionysios Mouzaki, as reported by journalist Ioanna Mandrou.

In her appeal, Lausa Kovesi, as the journalist reported on One, is seeking a five-year extension of her term rather than a two-year one. “Kovesi herself appealed to the plenary session of the Supreme Court and said, ‘You were wrong to grant a two-year extension (to the terms of Greek prosecutors); I have given them 5 years and I insist on 5,” Ioanna Mandrou specifically stated.

The case will be heard by the Supreme Court at the final hearing before the end of the current judicial year, on June 30, 2026.

According to Ioanna Mandrou, if the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court decides that “we hold all the cards,” it will be a major defeat for Laura Kovesi. “If some 90 Supreme Court justices gather and tell her that we hold the knife and we hold the melon, Ms. Kovesi’s institutional defeat will be significant,” she said specifically.

The journalist also expressed the view that the relevant Greek authorities treated the issue of OPEKEPE seriously.

In her remarks, the journalist said that, contrary to the impression that was attempted to be created—namely, that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office was the one handling the matter— most arrests related to OPEKEPE were made by Greek authorities.
