Alexandra Sdoukou sharply criticized the economic rhetoric of the opposition, warning of the dangers of reckless handouts.

The press spokesperson for New Democracy referred to the need to protect the country’s economic stability and to avoid the populist slogans of the past, New Democracyspokesperson Alexandra Sdoukou made remarks. Ms. Sdoukou emphasized that empty promises and cost-free commitments were the main cause of the deep crises experienced by Greek society, calling on the political system to demonstrate maturity. As she pointedly noted, “This logic of ‘let’s hand everything out generously, there’s plenty of money, everything’s free’ did not lead us to a good place. We paid the price.”

According to the spokesperson for the ruling party, the historical experience of recent decades must serve as a guide for shaping current economic policy, steering clear of experiments that jeopardize the sacrifices made by citizens. He emphasized that “when we make mistakes, we must learn from these past errors and be more careful,” while distinguishing the government’s position from the tactics employed by the opposition parties.

Ms. Sdoukou accused the opposition of playing it safe when it comes to making announcements, since it does not bear the burden of governing and maintaining fiscal balance. “The opposition can promise whatever it wants and hand out money recklessly. We are in government; we want to respect every euro of our fellow Greek citizens,” he stated emphatically.
