A serious train accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 20) in Germany, when two freight trains collided under circumstances that remain unclear.

The collision in Munich resulted in the derailment of two railcars, which fell from a bridge onto the ground. According to emergency services, one person was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

“At approximately 1:40 a.m., we were called to respond to a railway accident, where two trains appear to have collided, derailed, and partially fallen off a bridge,” said the spokesperson for the Munich Fire Department, Johannes Schörer.

Causes of the collision in Germany remain unknown

Approximately 60 rescue workers and firefighters were initially deployed to the scene, with the number of personnel later reduced as the situation was brought under control.

The relevant authorities are investigating the causes that led to the collision of the two trains, though they have not yet announced any preliminary findings.

Meanwhile, crews have begun work to remove the railcars and repair damage to the infrastructure. Estimates suggest the process may take several days.

There were no hazardous materials in the cargo

The contents of the cargo have not been disclosed. However, the police clarified that no hazardous substances were being transported and that there is no threat to the general public.

Authorities are also considering keeping a section of the area’s road network closed until Sunday to ensure that recovery operations can be completed safely.

According to a spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn, the accident occurred on a line used exclusively for freight transport. For this reason, no disruptions to passenger service are expected.
