The Prime Minister of Britain, Keir Starmer, is expected to submit his resignation tomorrow, Monday (6/22), according to a report in the Observer published today, Sunday.
The same report states that the leader of the Labour Party has already made his decision following a series of meetings with government officials, party officials, and financial backers of the party.
The succession timeline is also on the table
According to the newspaper, Keir Starmer is expected to present the framework for his succession on Monday, signaling the way forward for Labour.
The report claims that the British prime minister has concluded that remaining in leadership is no longer a viable option. This assessment was formed following discussions with ministers, close associates, donors, and top union officials.
The discussions at Chequers and the reactions
According to the Observer, Keir Starmer discussed the possibility of his resignation with his wife at his official residence at Chequers, before making his final decisions.
At the same time, senior party officials are awaiting clear answers regarding his political future within the next few hours.
A government source, however, attempted to downplay the situation, asserting that the prime minister remains committed to “continuing his work,” despite the speculation that has arisen regarding his possible resignation.
