The behavior of Nikos Androulakis in Thessaloniki has caused discontent among local officials of PASOK.

The grumbling within PASOK shows no signs of stopping, and the truth is that Nikos Androulakis himself often has a hand in it. At least that’s how it appears from the grumbling that took place during the visit of the president of PASOK to Thessaloniki.

According to reports, Nikos Androulakis sat down at a central café in the city with local party officials. Except that admission wasn’t open to all party officials—only to those the president wanted and who had supported him in the most recent internal party elections.

The rest were neither invited nor taken into account. And we’re not talking about mere members, but about officials elected to party bodies as well as to public offices in the city.

For example, Sarantis Monoportis, a well-known leader of PASOKThessaloniki and an elected city councilor alongside Stelios Angeloudis, wrote in a post that Nikos Androulakisdid not have coffee with party officials but only with his own group of supporters. In fact, he accused Androulakis of behaving more like a team leader than a party president.

Other city officials share this view; Nikos Androulakis not only sidelined during his visit to Thessaloniki but also complain that the party leadership at Harilaou Trikoupi Street is not listening to their suggestions and objections. For example, local officials had expressed dissatisfaction with the removal of Haris Kastanidis, resulting in their exclusion from Androulakis’s tour.

Many local officials argue that given Androulakis’s behavior, it is no coincidence that the party in Thessaloniki is polling in the low single digits and ranks fourth or fifth.
