Trump’s threats to resume missile attacks against Tehran prompted a reaction from Iran, which called for a halt to the talks in Switzerland, and subsequently the delegation walked out of the negotiating venue.
“Don’t they realize that if their threats had any effect, they wouldn’t be in the difficult position they’re in today? We pay no attention to the Americans’ threats,” the Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bayar Galibaf told X shortly after the Iranian delegation’s departure. “They’d be wise to watch what they say; our armed forces are ready to respond in a different way. Whatever they say, we will take action,” added Mohammad Bayar Galibaf.
It should be noted that the Iranian delegation left the negotiating venue with the U.S. in protest of comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump. Earlier, Trump called on Tehran to prevent its allies in Lebanon from “causing trouble,” threatening that otherwise the U.S. would resume strikes against Iran.
Previously, the Iranian delegation submitted a note of protest to the U.S. side and is now weighing its options, following threats by U.S. President Donald Trump, as reported by Iran’s Press TV.
According to Iranian state media, following the four-party negotiations, bilateral talks have begun between Iran and Qatar. State television referred to a “pause” in negotiations between Iran and the U.S., claiming that the issue of Iran’s nuclear program was not discussed.
“No negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program took place during the 80 minutes of the first round of talks,” the Iranian state channel reported. “At this stage , the discussions centered on compliance with the memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of the two countries earlier this week, as well as the situation in Lebanon,” the Iranian state broadcaster reported regarding the negotiations.
We recall that shortly after the main U.S.-Iran negotiations began in Switzerland, Donald Trump rushed to threaten Tehran via Twitterand lend a helping hand to Israel regarding the attacks on Lebanon.
“Iran must immediately stop its highly paid CONSULS in Lebanon from causing unrest. If it doesn’t, we will strike Iran very hard again, just as we did last week—only this time it will be even harder!!!,” U.S. President Donald Trump stated in his latest message.
