Technical talks begin between the U.S. and Iran to end the war in the Middle East.

Switzerland, which is hosting the talks between Iran and the United States, announced the immediate start of technical talks, following discussions between high-level delegations from the two countries.

In a statement issued by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it welcomed “the agreement on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days.” According to the ministry, “this roadmap creates the conditions for the immediate start of new technical talks.”

The two delegations, led by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bayer Galibaf respectively, are departing from Switzerland to allow for the start of closed-door technical talks that will last the entire week at the Burgin the Swiss Alps.

Overnight, the governments of Pakistan and Qatar announced in a joint statement that the two sides “had agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days, laying the groundwork for the immediate launch of new technical discussions.”

Iran, through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, spoke of “significant progress,” while the United States has not yet commented on the outcome of the talks.

For its part, Bern stated that it is ready to support the process “in the context of its tradition of providing good offices.”

“Our goal is for our diplomacy to contribute to de-escalation, stability, and peace,” according to a statement from the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
