Kilkis is visiting the Deputy Minister of Sports Yiannis Vroutsis accompanied by Olympic champions.
The minister’s discussions are focused on the needs of sports infrastructure in the region, as well as the prospect of new projects.
Yiannis Vroutsis, along with the two mayors of the Regional Units, Messrs. Kyriakidis and Chionidis, visited the site at the sports complex, where the Municipal Swimming Pool will soon be built—a project that has been a long-standing request of the local community for 50 years.
The swimming center, which will cost 3 million euros, is set to be a jewel for the area and will be complemented by two indoor gyms, a soccer stadium, beach volleyball and tennis courts, with the entire facility forming a comprehensive Sports Center.
Planning for the construction of the sports facilities began way back in 2004, the Olympic Games and is expected to be completed in 2027 with the completion of the swimming pool.
The Deputy Minister of Sports visited the Kilkis City Hall, where he spoke with representatives of sports clubs, was briefed on various issues of concern to them, and presented the ministry’s plans for the region.
A short time earlier, he laid a wreath at the statue of Hero Lieutenant Colonel Antonis Kampanis, a native of Andros, who fell on June 21 during the great historic Battle of Kilkis on June 21, 1913.
