Zacharias Zoupis believes that the upcoming elections may lead to a fragmented political landscape and political realignments.

The research director at OpinionPoll, Zacharias Zoupis, speaking on the program “The Next Day” on Action24, argued that the political landscape is entering a period of intense upheaval, which may lead to a new balance of power by the next elections.

Realignments and two key players

Mr. Zoupis noted that this is the first time the phenomenon has been observed, with at least five parties have rejected any discussion of cooperation from the outset, essentially choosing to move forward with the goal of a majority government. As he noted, barring any unforeseen events, the prospect of elections in spring makes political sense.

At the same time, he assessed that the time remaining until the election may reinforce the central dilemma of the election, particularly in light of Greece’s assumption of the presidency of the European Union by Greece. However, he emphasized that this period will not only serve to exacerbate polarization but will also serve as a arena for significant political realignments.

According to his analysis, the country may find itself facing conditions of “fragmented political landscape”, with two main players dominating the political arena. As he pointed out, if the parties ranked third and below cannot withstand the long and intense pre-election pressure, the political landscape may become clearer and more concentrated around two strong poles.
