Turkish F-16 and drones carried out a barrage of violations in the Aegean Sea, with interceptions and immediate intercepts by Greek fighter jets at multiple points in the airspace.

According to available data, air activity in Aegean is showing a new increase in tension in Greek-Turkish relations, with Turkish F-16s and unmanned aerial vehicles entering multiple zones of Greek national airspace, causing a series of violations and the immediate mobilization of the Greek Air Force for reconnaissance and interception, against a backdrop that brings the ongoing tensions in the region’s airspace back into the spotlight.

This particular development adds to an already tense situation in the Aegean, where aerial activities of both sides remain highly intense, with frequent encounters and interceptions now a constant feature of the daily operational picture.

Two encounters involving Greek fighter jets

On Tuesday, Turkish aircraft committed seven violations of air traffic regulations and six violations of national airspace.

The formation consisted of two armed F-16s, two UAVs, and one ATR-72 maritime patrol aircraft, operating in the northeastern, central, and southeastern Aegean

Specifically, seven violations were recorded by an F-16, five by UAVs, and one by the ATR-72.

One airspace violation was committed by an F-16 and five by the ATR-72.

Two encounters with Greek fighter jets were recorded.

The above aircraft were identified and intercepted in accordance with international rules, as is standard practice, notes the Hellenic National Defense General Staff.
