The need for the Sea of Hormuz to remain open, without transit fees or other barriers, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out.
The Prime Minister met today at the Maximou Mansion with Vice President of the Palestinian Authority Hussein al-Sheikh.

During the meeting, the latest developments in Iran and the wider Middle East region were discussed.
The prime minister welcomed announcements that the Sea Strait of Hormuz will be open for merchant ships, as well as the achievement of a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the importance of implementing the next phase of the peace plan for Gaza, while expressing concern about the situation in the West Bank. The Prime Minister reiterated Greece’s readiness to assist wherever required.
At the beginning of the meeting, Kyracos Mitsotakis made the following statement:
“It gives me great pleasure, Mr. Vice President, to welcome you to Athens. I hope today will be a better day. We have at least some positive developments, good news regarding the Straits of Hormuz.
It is very important for the global economy to ensure that the Straits remain open, without transit fees or other obstacles. There is also good news regarding the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, as well as direct talks between the two sides. Of course, all of this has particular relevance to what we will be discussing.

You know that my visit to Ramallah a few months ago was particularly constructive. You know that we remain committed to the Palestinian cause and I am particularly interested to hear your views on the next steps, both in the West Bank and in Gaza. We want to see a long-term and sustainable solution and we will continue to work towards that.”
