Unfortunately, PASOK chose to become a watered-down version of SYRIZA.
shipwreck (n.) 1. sinking of a ship “For years now, we’ve been watching the shipwreck of PASOK in slow motion” 2. wreck of a sunken ship “and what you see in fourth place in the poll is the wreck of PASOK” 3. complete failure “PASOK’s attempt to pose as a ‘light’ version of SYRIZA to win votes from the left while ignoring the center was a shipwreck”
“PASOK never dies,” said comrade Markogiannaki, trying to comfort and be comforted herself, after yet another poll showing her party Nikos and Haris in fourth place with a single-digit percentage.
Attempting the same thing, Comrade Spyropoulos recalled that not long ago, Bibila’s leader was in second place in the polls. Of course, neither attempt was successful, since a) merely surviving and limping along is not exactly what a party whose leaders aspire to govern wants, and b) the fact that the second-place party is changing is no consolation for the party that remains in third or fourth place.
Unfortunately (both for the party itself and for voters who want a serious alternative to the current government) PASOK chose to become a “light” version of SYRIZA, and so when the original SYRIZA reemerged, PASOK retreated. And as long as, swept along by the overambitious mayor of Bachalaioi, it insists on competing with Tzokodas in populism and irresponsibility, it will continue to lose ground.
It was too late…
All it took was the urging of a vague (along the lines of “the state must back down because that’s just how it is”) resolution by the Bahalaion municipality to end, after 140 days, the hunger strike for the refugee camps, and the question is: why, comrade mayor, didn’t you organize the resolution sooner and let a man suffer? What were you afraid of? No one thinks you’re on the side of law and order anyway.
Valuable service to the Hellenic Police
With all my heart, I want to advise the officials of New Democracy that pointing out that Tsipras is staffing his party with businesspeople—and therefore isn’t as left-wing as he pretends to be—is not criticism. It is a vindication of his rebranding and thus a valuable service to ELAS (that of Tzokontou, not Michalis’).
Confirmation
And the murder in Kallithea is yet another confirmation of the obvious: that as long as the “authorities” let their “acquaintances” and allow the areas where they operate to remain unchecked, the more murders we will have.
