The Ukrainian armed forces are intensifying their strikes against Russia.

Russian air defenses shot down 660 Ukrainian drones overnight, in one of the largest attacks since the outbreak of the war in February 2022.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian drones targeted more than ten Russian regions, including Moscow, the Crimean Peninsula , which has been annexed since 2014, —where, two days ago, Kyiv destroyed a railway bridge that was “key” to supplying the Russian army—in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

At least 47 Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems were heading toward Moscow starting at 02:29, according to the latest report. “Emergency response specialists are working at the crash sites,” said the city’s mayor Sergei Shabianin on Telegram, without, however, mentioning any casualties or damage.

A “massive” drone attack also targeted the Tula region, about 180 kilometers south of Moscow, according to Regional Governor Dmitry Milaev. “A woman was injured” when a house was struck and “suffered damage” in the Shchekino area, Milayev reported via Telegram.

In recent months, the Ukrainian armed forces have escalated their campaign of strikes using long-range drones against Russia, targeting primarily energy infrastructure, with the aim of depriving the Kremlin of the main source of revenue it uses to finance its war effort.

Last week, a Ukrainian attack caused a fire at an oil refinery in southeastern Moscow.
