Hezbollah warns that the agreement Israel–Lebanon will not be implemented and declares resistance to any government action with harsh, escalating rhetoric.

In the most recent escalation of rhetoric surrounding the fragile balance in Lebanon, Hezbollah is responding with a particularly harsh stance, directly raising the issue of implementing the agreement that is reportedly reached with Israel, and arguing that the political authorities in Beirut do not have the actual capacity to fulfill their commitments on the ground without serious internal unrest, threatening civil war. In an environment already burdened by geopolitical tensions and constant uncertainty, the organization warns of complete rejection of any measure it considers detrimental to its role, further fueling the climate of political confrontation and increasing pressure on the country’s government at an extremely critical juncture.

The Hezbollah lawmaker, Hassan Fadlallah, stated tonight that the Lebanese authorities will not be able to implement the framework agreement they signed today with Israel in Washington unless, with U.S. support, “they are driven into a civil war,” reported the Al Mayadeen television channel.

The threats

Fadlallah stated that Hezbollah will oppose any measures taken by the Lebanese authorities and will hold on to its weapons even more firmly, adding that the organization’s opposition is “serious” and that it will not allow the authorities to implement their commitments on the ground.

According to the lawmaker, “what happened in Washington was an attempt to undermine” the “Islamabad process,” that is, the Iran-U.S. agreement brokered by Pakistan. He added that “without the resistance (i.e., Hezbollah), nothing will go through.”
