Following the release of the scores from the Panhellenic Exams 2026 and the statistical data from the Ministry of Education, the first estimates have begun regarding the trend of admission cutoff scores at public universities.
A total of 89,032 candidates took the exams, vying for one of the 68,788 available spots for the 2026–2027 academic year. Of these, 75,109 come from General High Schools (GEL), and 13,923 from Vocational High Schools (EPAL).
How Are the Minimum Admission Scores Determined
Based on the data released by the Ministry of Education, the initial estimates for the Minimum Admission Scores (MAS) are as follows:
- 1st Academic Field (Humanities): 8.91, compared to 9.04 in 2025.
- 2nd Academic Field (Natural Sciences): 10.48, compared to 9.82 last year.
- 3rd Academic Field (Health Sciences): 9.84, up from 9.60 in 2025.
- 4th Academic Field (Economics and Information Technology): 8.25, compared to 8.40 last year.
It should be noted that the EBE is the minimum admission threshold and is calculated as 80% of the average performance of candidates in each academic field.
Where are admission thresholds expected to rise and where to fall
Regarding the trend of admission cutoffs, it is estimated that the 1st and the 4th academic fields will show a downward trend, as candidates’ overall performance was lower compared to the previous year.
In contrast, in the 2nd and 3rd academic fields, an increase is expected.
This increase stems from the fact that the number of students receiving top grades on the 18–20 scale has tripled. Last year, 10% of candidates fell within this range; this year, 30% do, with the Physics exam effectively raising the cutoff scores in both scientific fields.
For medical schools, it is estimated that the increase will be limited and will range from approximately 200 to 250 points.
As for the Positive Sciences and Polytechnic Schools, the admission thresholds will rise, a development that is expected to lead to more unfilled spots due to the implementation of the Minimum Admission Threshold.
The rise in admission scores will also result in the most unfilled spots in the field, as a side effect of the Minimum Admission Score.
Public universities, meanwhile, may record more than 10,000 unfilled spots.
At the same time, applicants can already calculate their scores using the special online application of the Ministry of Education, by entering their written exam scores to automatically view the points they have accumulated for each department within their academic field.
The next step is the process of submitting the Computerized Application Form, for which relevant announcements from the ministry are expected.
Please also note that applicants must create a personal security code in order to submit Computerized Application Form or Parallel Computerized Application Form. The deadline is Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
