Shots fired in the Sea Strait of Hormuz, after Tehran announced new transit restrictions.

At least two tankers were targeted by vessels linked to the Revolutionary Guards, according to initial reports, and sound documents of the crews’ communications were recorded.

A Indian tanker came under fire and issued a danger signal. Shortly afterwards, Reuters reported that two commercial vessels said they were shot at in transit.

In the first audio, a tanker captain is heard saying: “You gave us permission to move, why are you hitting us?”. In the second, a loud protest and call for help is recorded, while gunfire can be heard in the background.

Confirmation from the British Army

The British armed forces have confirmed the incident, noting that two vessels of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a tanker passing through the area.

UKMTO said it received a report of a ship being attacked by “two armed vessels” linked to Iran. As noted, there was no previous warning.

Despite the incident, the crew and ship are safe, with no further details given on the identity or destination of the vessel.

At the same time, the Times of India is reporting a shooting incident in the area, confirming that at least two ships attempted to cross the Seaway of Hormuz amid the disturbance.
