News resignation from the party of Stefanos Kasselakis, with Member of Parliament Michalis Chourdakis stating that “a cycle has come to an end.”

New political turmoil is unfolding within the “Democrats”, as developments surrounding Stefanos Kasselakis’s party continue with the departure of yet another parliamentary leader. Michalis Chourdakis, MP for Thessaloniki A, announced that he had submitted his resignation, choosing to bring a chapter of political collaboration to a close—one that, as he noted, was marked by both efforts and disagreements.

His move comes at a particularly critical juncture for the new political formation, following the departure of Theodora Tzakri, raising new questions about the party’s cohesion and future.

In his statement, Michalis Chourdakis emphasized that his decision was made after careful consideration, without any intention of personal conflict, while making it clear that he would continue to carry out his parliamentary duties based on, as he noted, institutional integrity and responsibility toward the citizens.

His departure from Stefanos Kasselakis’ Democrats party was also announced by Michalis Chourdakis, Member of Parliament for Thessaloniki A, 24 hours after Theodora Tzakri’s resignation.

Michalis Chourdakis has also left the Kasselakis party: “A cycle has come to an end”

“A short while ago, I submitted my resignation from the DEMOCRATS-Progressive Center.

This decision was neither easy nor hasty. It was preceded by a long period of reflection, during which I honestly assessed my political journey, my responsibilities toward the citizens, and the way in which I believe I must serve the public.

I would like to thank the President, the leadership, the members, and everyone who has stood by me during this time, despite our occasional disagreements and missteps. The joint efforts and the personal relationships that have developed are an essential part of my political journey, and I hold them in high regard.

I believe that in politics there are moments when consistency demands that you clearly acknowledge that a cycle has come to an end. Without personal confrontations, without labels, and without the need to dismiss the people with whom you have walked side by side.

Political consistency does not require accusations to be genuine. My own understanding of politics has been and remains steadfast: institutional integrity, seriousness, dialogue, and a sense of responsibility toward society.

Guided by these principles, I continue to fulfill my institutional role as Member of Parliament for the First District of Thessaloniki. I thank all those who honor me with their trust; for me, this is the greatest responsibility and the most steadfast compass guiding my public service.”
