The Ministry of Education is in the final phase of preparations for the entrance exams in the Standards and Public Onassis schools, and for the completion in the Experimental schools.

The procedures will take place late next week, with authorities expected to issue detailed instructions to candidates soon. At the same time, the venues and times will be announced, as well as the links to the live streaming of the draw.

The dates

The start date is Friday (24/4), with the public lottery for admission to Preparatory Schools. On the same day, the random priority number will be assigned to resolve tie-breakers.

The exams will follow:

  • On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the skill test for Model Schools and Model Church Schools.
  • On Sunday 26 April 2026 the test for Public Onassis Schools takes place.

The subjects of the test

Students vying for a place in the Upper Secondary School are mainly assessed in two areas:

  • Comprehension of Greek language texts
  • Mathematics

In language, the comprehension of written language and basic elements of grammar and syntax are tested. In mathematics, emphasis is placed on solving everyday problems and simple operations.

For admission to upper secondary school, candidates are tested on knowledge acquired in High School, with more complex language and mathematics requirements, such as algebra, geometry and statistics.

In Standard Church Schools, a course in Religious Studies is added, which assesses basic knowledge of Orthodox tradition and church life.

More than 30,000 applications

There has been a particularly high level of interest in this year’s process. A total of 30,990 applications were received for 7,374 places.

  • 13,987 applications for 1.809 places in Standards
  • 12.644 applications for 3,266 places in the Experimental
  • 3,945 applications for 1.786 places at the Public Onassis
  • 414 applications for 513 places in the Model Ecclesiastical

Compared to last year, there was an increase in both applications and available places, which were boosted by about 1.000.
