Government plan of the New Democracy for economic development, investment and political stability in the run-up to the next election.
In a climate of political mobilization ahead of the next election, the pre-conference of New Democracy in Heraklion Cretewas a point of reference for the presentation of the key government priorities and the strategic direction of the party. From the podium at the event,NWD Director General Giannis Smyrlis highlighted the policy framework that connects the country’s development course with the maintenance of stability and the strengthening of social cohesion. The speech was integrated into the broader pre-synodal process of the New Democracy, which aims to shape the party’s positions and priorities ahead of the 16th Ordinary Synod in Athens, with an emphasis on reforms, investments and economic development.
In this framework, the government’s policy agenda takes on particular importance, as it links the present of interventions with the strategic planning of the next period, seeking to transform the results achieved so far into a stable growth path. The choices already routed in the economy, investment and public infrastructure serve as a basis for continuing a governance model aimed at sustainable progress, enhancing competitiveness and improving the daily lives of citizens.
Speech by the Director General of New Democracy Yannis Smyrlis at the party’s Pre-Conference in Heraklion, Crete
Mr President of the New Democracy, Ladies and Gentlemen Ministers, Regional Governors, Mayors, Members of Parliament, New Democrats, Ondidians and Ondidians, Dear friends, It is a great pleasure to be here today in Crete, on this historic island, which is an excellent example of how a place with enormous strengths succeeds, over the years, in unleashing them for the benefit of both the regional and the overall development of our country.
Crete is a blessed island, which among many other things, has strong tourism, significant cultural wealth and has significant opportunities for the creation of modern infrastructure and transport. The New Democracy Government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis have managed, since 2019, with strategy and hard work, to strengthen Crete, to put into practice many small and large projects and at the same time to launch a number of others that will be implemented in the coming years. Friends, It is a great pleasure to hold a Pre-Conference here in Crete, on the way to the 16th Ordinary Congress, which will take place on 15-17 May in Athens and will mark the official start of our party’s preparations for the 2027 national elections.
For several weeks now, we have been experiencing an extremely critical and complex situation for the whole world, as the Middle East is on fire and of course, all this time, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has developed significant international and diplomatic mobility for our Homeland and Cyprus.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Our Party, in fifty-one years of life, history and significant contribution, has cultivated a substantial relationship of trust with the citizens. A catalytic role in this beautiful journey has been played by our cadres, by all of you, who give the fight every day in every village, in every town, in every neighbourhood. You are always on the front line in society. For many years now you have been winning election battles continuously and we are sure that you will do the same again and again, always guided by the values and principles of our historic Party.
I would like to congratulate and thank you for your participation in the internal party processes of New Democracy, and to emphasize that on the way to our Ordinary Congress, we are steadily continuing our tours all over Greece, with the aim of setting the political priorities for Greece in 2030 in order to take Greece even higher, even stronger!
Friends and Friends, Finally, through all this governmental work we are doing, we are strengthening the economy more and supporting society. We keep saying it. For us, our absolute priority is to care and take care of Greeks, especially those in greatest need. We do not want anyone to be left behind. That is why we work hard and methodically. So that we can serve society fairly, so that we can do what the citizens have entrusted us to do.
To continue to have political, economic and social stability, a stable and secure environment for Greeks to progress and prosper. And we are confident that we will achieve this again with the President of our Party Kyriakos Mitsotakis and with a third self-reliant Government of New Democracy! Thank you very much!
