About the consequences of war in a geostrategic region like the Middle East, Minister of Shipping Vassilis Kikilias spoke to CNN Greece.

He explained that the economic consequences are unpredictable, as 20% of the world’s oil comes out of the Seaway of Hormuz, 25% of the world’s natural gas is traded, as well as fertilizers and other products.

According to Vassilis Kikilias, there are 11 Greek-flagged ships within the Gulf of Persia and several times as many Greek-flagged ships outside the Straits of Oman, and even more Greek-owned ships for which Greece has no jurisdiction.

“Nevertheless, when and if they have Greek seafarers and because they belong to Greek shipowners, of course there is concern. From the operations room of the Ministry of Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, they are contacted three times a day with them, every day.”

Mr. Kikilias also said that there is care and concern for Greek seafarers who want to go back as has already been done with ten seafarers who wished to do so.
