Russia launched a widespread attack on Ukraine, using 619 drones and 47 missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
These attacks hit several regions, with the southeastern city of Dnipro being the main target, while Ukrainian forces said they shot down 580 drones and 30 missiles.
Debris in Romania
During the same attack, debris from a Russian drone fell in the southeastern city of Galacci in Romania. Damage was caused to a electricity pylon and part of a house, with no injuries.
Romania, owned by NATO and EU, bordering Ukraine at a length of about 650 kilometres. Incidents of airspace violations by drones have been recorded in the past.
However, this was the first time material damage to property occurred.
“The Ministry of Defence strongly condemns the irresponsible actions of the Russian Federation and underlines that they represent a new challenge to regional security and stability in the Black Sea region,” the ministry’s statement said.
“Such incidents demonstrate the Russian Federation’s lack of respect for the rules of international law and endanger not only the security of Romanian citizens, but also the collective security of NATO.”
Reaction and concern
The Romanian Ministry of Defence referred to “irresponsible actions” by the Russian Federation, stressing that there is an increasing risk to regional security in the Black Sea.
At the same time, two Eurofighter Typhoon fighters took off on a surveillance mission. Authorities warned residents in nearby areas to seek shelter.
