The Award Member of Parliament of the Year in the “Single Market and European Competitiveness” category of the prestigious The Parliament Magazine has selected Dimitris Tsiodras.

After the announcement of candidacy, the MEP and spokesman of the New Democracy Group of the European Parliament said that “this candidacy is a significant honour and recognition of my work”, adding that “with 4 pieces of legislation as rapporteur, 4 opinions, 47 speeches in plenary, 61 written questions and hundreds of amendments, I have tried to contribute to a single market with rules and controls on imports, less bureaucracy, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and effective consumer protection.

The list of a total of four candidates for the award is the result of a rigorous process following a proposal from bodies related to the subject matter and based on the key criterion of parliamentary contribution to promoting the completion of the single market and strengthening European competitiveness.

It is noteworthy that Dimitris Tsiodras is the only one of the candidates elected for the first time in 2024 as the list includes three very experienced MEPs with at least one term in the European Parliament, namely, Christian Ehler, Coordinator of the European People’s Party (EPP) in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee, Susana Solís Pérez, Spanish EPP MEP and Stéphanie Yon-Courtin, Liberal (Renew) Coordinator in the Economic and Monetary Policy Committee of the European Parliament.

The awards will be presented during a special ceremony on 30 June in Brussels. Regardless of the outcome, Dimitris Tsiodras noted that “in any case, the recognition of this effort has its own value and I pledge to continue in this way.”
