The DPA resolution against the Attorney General of the Supreme Court over the interceptions has sparked a fierce internal conflict in the legal world.

Severe turmoil within the judiciary is being caused by the official position of the Athens Bar Association, which calls for the top prosecutor to leave office.

The controversy came to a head after the filing of the case of telephone interceptions, a decision taken by Konstantinos Tzavellas and which was at the heart of the controversial resolution.

On the other side, Dmitris Anastasopoulos, president of the Greek Lawyers’ Association e-Themis and former candidate for the presidency of the Association, expressed his strong opposition to the handling of the DSA leadership.

As he argues, during the last meeting on the bugging issue, the unanimous – and in his view more moderate – decision of the Coordination Committee of the Bar Associations was not adopted.

On the contrary, a different statement was adopted by a majority, which he called “extreme” and “opposing“.

At the same time, he referred to the presence of Zoe Konstantopoulou at the meeting, noting that she expressed strong positions and warnings of legal action.

In the same context, Mr. Anastasopoulos expressed concern that such positions may damage the authority of Justice and negatively affect the role of the IAA, arguing that decisions should be made on the basis of institutional responsibility and not political expediency.
