The strike action taking place today (01/05) as part of the Labour Labor First Day, involving ADEDY, the GSEE, the Labour Centre of Athens and the PAME.

The strike conveningthe Athens Labour Centre of the ADEDY, the GSEE and the Labour Centre Athens started at 11:00 am in Klathmonos Square, while PAME had called for a strike rally from 10:30 am.p.m. at Syntagma.

In Piraeus, the meeting is being held at the Municipal Theatre Square by the Labour Centre Piraeus.

Similar mobilizations are taking place in other cities in Greece.

In Thessaloniki, three rallies and an equal number of marches are being held by workers and students to celebrate Labour Day.

Unions of the Workers’ and Employees’ Centre of Thessaloniki and the EDOTH/NT ADEDY gathered outside the Thessaloniki Labour Centre and will march and lay wreaths at the Monument of the Worker, at Venizelos Metro station.

The march of the workers’ unions rallying in PAME will end at the same place, after their gathering that has already started at the statue of El. Venizelos. Pre-rallies of the Labour Unions were held in various places in the centre of Thessaloniki.

In Kamara, at 11.00 am, the Primary Unions of the Private and Public Sector, parties of the extra-parliamentary Left and anti-authoritarian groups were called to a meeting.

The Panhellenic Maritime Federation (PNO) honours the Labour Day with a 24-hour nationwide strike.

The mobilization began at midnight on May 1 (00:01) and will end at 24:00 on the same day,resulting in the universal immobilization of all categories of ships.

How public transport in Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki will operate

With route restrictions and security personnel, public transport in Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki will operate due to the strike action.

In Athens and Piraeus:

The Grams 1, 2 and 3 of the Metro as well as the Tram will not operate throughout the day.

On buses and trolleybuses, workers will hold a work stoppage from the start of the shift until 09:00 in the morning and from 21:00 until the end of the shift.

The operation of vehicles will start gradually after the end of the work stoppage at 09:00 and, respectively, the gradual withdrawal of vehicles to the car parks will begin before 21:00.

In addition, due to the participation of some of the workers in the 24-hour strike of the GSEE, cancellations of bus routes are expected during the period of operation.

It is noted that for the operating hours of buses and trolleybuses, a schedule of timetables will be in force on Sundays.

In Thessaloniki:

The buses of the Organisation of Urban Transport of Thessaloniki (OASTH will be operated with security personnel today, Friday, 1 May, as the OASTH Employees’ Union will participate with a 24-hour strike in the traditional May Day mobilisations.

The specially adapted vehicles for people with disabilities will operate normally, as well as the nightly line N1 which runs the KTEL – Airport Night route.

The four stations of Thessaloniki Metro will be suspended for seven hours, according to a statement by Thema. Specifically, as noted in the statement, on the order of the police authorities, from 09:00 to 16:00 the operation of the stations “Venizelos”, “Agia Sofia”, “Sidrivani” and “University” is suspended.

At the same time, there may be delays in the timetables or restrictions in the operation of the metro, due to the strike mobilization called by the General Confederation of Workers of Greece.
