Alexis Tsipras announced in a post that he will not participate in Skai‘s 2015 documentary, saying they are trying to assassinate his character.
Alexis Tsipras seems unwilling to face the reality of what happened in 2015. This is how he announced his refusal to participate in the SKAI documentary about the 2015 period, based on the book “The Last Bluff”.
In the letter refusing to participate, he accuses the two journalists of the book, Elena Varvitsioti and Victoria Dendrinou, of deliberately distorting the events from what happened in 2015 to the Prespes agreement. Of course, we should remember here that what they wrote in their book has been verified from time to time by many people such as Giannis Stournaras and Jan Claude Juncker.
But apparently the former prime minister prefers “his own truth”, as he conveniently records it in Ithaca. Besides, he has a rebranding to attend to and a new party to create.
As Alexis Tsipras says, “I do not wish by my participation to legitimize the unprecedented attempt at character assassination against me through your book. In which, without any proof, no real evidence, you falsely accused me that as Prime Minister of the country I “exchanged” in a miserable transaction with the then President of the Commission Zan Claude Juncker, the resolution of a critical national issue, the Macedonian issue, with no cut in pensions”.
And he continues his attack on journalists “Proof that since then, both in Parliament and in many interviews, Kyriakos Mitsotakis has relied on your false and immoral fabrication to hurt my face and my morals, but you have not made the slightest move to restore the truth. For ten years you have allowed the lies and misery bearing your signature to be circulated.”
What happened in 2015 with the false promises of one-article memorandum abrogations, the earthquakes, the dummies for the markets to dance to, the Go Back Merkel, Baroufakis and the ridiculous negotiation, the bank closures, Capital Control, the bullshit coup, the mock referendum and later with the shameful Prespa Agreement and so much more we all remember. And Alexis Tsipras should know that no one is going to assassinate his political character better than him and what he did and said back then.
And it seems he not only has no regrets but insists on convenient distortion and attacks anyone who describes reality.
Dendrinos – Varvitsiotis response
The two journalists in the book refute Alexis Tsipras, saying “We don’t know if you have read our book “The Last Bluff” which was the reason for the creation of the documentary, but in none of its 399 pages is there any connection – either direct or indirect – between the signing of the Prespa Agreement and the non-cut in pensions.”
In fact, they stress that what they wrote was based on anonymous testimonies from Greek and foreign officials with no political motives. At the same time, they insist that the invitation to the former prime minister to participate in the documentary “In the Millionth” remains open.
Here are Alexis Tsipras’ post and the letter from Varvitsiotis – Dendrinos:
“Dear Mr. Tsipras,
Your choice not to participate in SKAI’s documentary “In Chiliostos”, which is based exclusively on the testimonies of the protagonists of the events of 2015 – Greek and foreign politicians and technocrats – saddens us journalistically, while we are also surprised by the reason you invoke.
We don’t know if you have read our book “The Last Bluff” which was the occasion for the creation of the documentary, but in none of its 399 pages is there any connection – either direct or indirect – between the signing of the Prespa Agreement and the non-cut of pensions. Your denial is therefore based on a claim that existed in the public political debate long before the book was written but was never adopted by us, nor did it emerge from our own journalistic research.
In any case, we would like to inform you that our documentary is based entirely on now anonymous testimonies of the protagonists of the time – including many ministers of your first government. And with this in mind, it goes without saying that SKAI is always open to hosting you, whenever you choose, either during the screening of the documentary or after its completion.
Eleni Varvitsioti – Victoria Dendrinou”.
