Specifically, the Special Standing Committee on Armament Programmes and Contracts of the Greek Parliament will be informed and give its opinion on the award of the contract between the Ministry of National Defence and the Skaramanga shipyards, for an amount of €19 million.
As highlighted in a ministry statement, with this contract the shipyards are undertaking all the work required as part of the upgrade programme for the Navy’s MEKO-type frigates.
This is yet another contract that is part of the implementation of the directive of the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, for the minimum 25% participation of the domestic defence ecosystem in the Armed Forces’ armament programmes, the statement said.
The Special Standing Committee on Armament Programmes and Contracts of the Hellenic Parliament will also be briefed, among other things, on the applicable agreement which outlines the process of acquisition of two FREMM – IT (Bergamini class) frigates by the Navy of Italy, with the possibility of acquiring two more.
The implementing agreement, the announcement adds, also provides for the undertaking of the upgrade and maintenance work of the FREMM frigates by our country’s shipyards.
