Sharp response by Adonis Georgiades to Nikos Moraitis on 2015, with reference to deposit outflows, capital controls and the political narrative of crisis.
In a new, particularly sharp political statement that brings the debate about the events of the financial crisis and the deposit outflows of 2015 back into focus, Health Minister Adonis Georgiades responds in a harsh way to the reports of Nikos Moraitis. The debate focuses on the narrative surrounding the so-called “Dirty ’15”, deposit outflows and the imposition of capital controls, with the minister rejecting accusations of organised plan for destabilisation and insisting that the capital flight was linked to a climate of political uncertainty and fear of developments in the banking system.
The public debate began with a lengthy post by Nikos Moraitis, in which he presented his own interpretation of 2015, placing blame on the previous political system and European manipulations for the economic suffocation, deposit outflows and the climate of pressure that led to capital controls. This was followed by Adonis Georgiades, who directly challenged this narrative, arguing that the capital flight was the result of political uncertainty and fear of citizens, rejecting claims of an organized destabilization plan. Thus, the two interventions form a temporally sequential juxtaposition with two opposing readings of the same events of the critical period of 2015.
The Moraitis post
In his post, the well-known lyricist argues that “So let’s talk about “Dirty ’15” or how the Samaras government left the coffers empty, Europe closed the spigot to cause financial suffocation in a bankrupt country that couldn’t last a day without funding, while Samaras’ ministers had already been calling for months for citizens to withdraw their deposits abroad in case Tsipras was elected.
Let’s finally talk about the plan for the Left to be a 1-2 month parenthesis that would leave humiliated since it could not pay salaries and pensions.
Let’s finally talk about the “patriotism” of empty coffers and scorched earth, let’s talk about how much those who bankrupted the country love it and who today have set up a million dollar dance on the backs of a people.
Let’s talk about all of them – from the goat thieves who were found with a Porsche to the corruption scientists who made the State their personal booty.”

Georgiades’ response
Health Minister Adonis Georgiades responded directly to Nikos Moraitis, noting “Mr. Moraitis I really admire your talent in singing and I congratulate you. You are slightly ignorant on the economy so don’t bother. I said what I said at the time to show that if they said what they said the money would go away. So what happened? The money left and what did @atsipras understand? Not that they shouldn’t have said or done so much crap but that he should have closed the banks earlier so that he could have forced depositors to keep it here while he gambled with their deposits. As a true communist he doesn’t understand that everyone’s money is theirs to take where they want and that capital controls are just another deprivation of their individual freedom. The money didn’t leave because I said so on Mega but to save it from Tsipras and the First Time Left and those who got there first and took it out did indeed save it. I like you a lot but I’m surprised that after then failed predictions you don’t reflect a little on your judgment and your knowledge.”
