Good, but unworkable, PASOK’s proposal for a 4-day working was described by president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yannis Hadjitheodosiou.
It is “out of place”, especially at a time when businesses are asking for and in need of staff, he said, speaking to SKAI.
“As an idea, if you ask me, it’s good, but it has no practical application,” he said. “Besides, where it has been implemented, we are talking about specific sectors, not labour-intensive. So what will the restaurant do, on day 5, how will it work? How will the commercial enterprise work? In the Netherlands and America it is only applied in specific industries,” he added.
“If I have a programmer to do some work for me, it doesn’t make sense for him to work 3-5 days, because I’m basically buying his brain. In practice in our country it is unworkable. We cannot talk about reduced hours, when we are demonstrably short of over 200,000 workers,” he also explained.
