It seems that the “green” camp, in an attempt to convince itself that it has returned to the glory days of the past, has decided to declare “war” on contact with reality.

The protagonist this time is Petros Pappas, who with a generous dose of political… “metaphysics”, announced on the Parapolitika frequency that PASOK is aiming for the first place and that the result of the elections will be… surprising.

Mr. Pappas, we fear that the word “miracle” would be more accurate. When all the polls show the New Democracy leading by double-digit margins of 15 and 17 points, dreaming of the top requires either a rare ability to ignore numbers or a very creative relationship with math.

Mr. Pappas of course has the answer ready: it’s the “mathematical models” and the fact that people don’t answer their phones. Apparently, all those who remain silent on the polls are doing so because they are waiting with bated breath to vote for Charilaou Trikoupis, keeping it a secret.

While the PASOK MP is indulging in exercises in political optimism, the reality of the country is moving at a different pace. <The government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues to dominate the political scene, not because of some mathematical error, but because of its stability and the reform work it is producing.

Citizens, despite the difficulties, trust a prime minister who speaks with concrete plans rather than wishful thinking and “surprises” reminiscent of… children’s party.

It is certainly touching to see PASOK executives fighting for “political change”, while at the same time calling the rest of the opposition “irrational”. The problem is that their own rhetoric is starting to look like a parallel universe. When the distance from New Democracy is a whole “light years”, talking about a first is not an ambition, it’s political illusion.

So let’s leave Mr. Pappas to wait for the “surprise” of the century. Until then, the government will continue to practice serious politics, leaving opposition figures the exclusive privilege of arguing with the pollsters’ calculators.
