Uncertainty in Israel as US-Iran for a nuclear deal and de-escalation are intensifying fears of a shifting balance in the Middle East.

At a time of intense geopolitical upheaval in Middle East, the latest developments around the Washington-Tehran contacts are creating a new field of uncertainty for the balance of power in the region, with Israel watching with obvious concern the moves of US diplomacy and the manipulations of President Donald Trump, with scenarios of a possible deal that could radically alter the strategic environment, affect regional alliances and reshape the security imbalances in the Persian Gulf.

With concern and uncertainty in Israel over Donald Trump’s latest handling of the Iran dealings, particularly after the US president’s decision to temporarily suspend the operation in the Strait of Hormuz, at a time when there are growing reports of an imminent agreement between Washington and Tehran to end the conflict.

The scope of negotiations

After Iran’s attacks on targets in the United Arab Emirates and the messages that, according to Israeli assessments, were mainly directed at the United States, Israel is experiencing increasing difficulty in understanding Donald Trump’s strategy towards Tehran.

According to Ynet, at the heart of the concerns is the US president’s decision to temporarily suspend the operation in the Strait of Hormuz, which was aimed at breaking the Iranian blockade and securing navigation in the Persian Gulf.

Despite the diplomatic moves, some Israeli officials believe that military conflict is not far away.

“In my opinion, the chances of a military attack are higher than the chances of successful negotiations,” said an Israeli source with knowledge of the contacts.

The same source stressed that “apart from the United States, all partners in the region – including Israel – are particularly interested in a strong strike that would significantly weaken the Iranian regime and possibly, over time, even lead to its downfall.”

According to this assessment, Trump is “exhausting the scope of the negotiations until he concludes that he has no choice but to strike Iran.”

U.S. and Iran close to deal, Axios says

At the same time, two U.S. officials and two other sources with knowledge of the contacts told Axios that the White House believes it is close to an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum of understanding that could lead to an end to the war and set the stage for more detailed negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program.

According to the report, Washington expects within the next 48 hours Iran’s response to a number of key points on the table.

Despite signs of progress, there are still strong reservations in Washington about whether a viable agreement with Iran can be reached.

Confirmation from Pakistani source

At the same time, a Pakistani official confirmed to Reuters that “the United States and Iran are close to signing a one-page memorandum to end the war.”

“We will finalize it very soon. We are getting close,” he said.
