Marios Themistocles oversaw the progress of modernization works in the hospital units of Patras and Kefalonia, strengthening the EESY.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous, made visits to the University General Hospital of Patras “PANAGIA I VOTHTEIA” and the General Hospital of Kefallinia. During his visits, Mr. Themistocleous reviewed the progress of major upgrade and modernization projects underway at both hospitals.

At the Pre-University General Hospital of Patras “Panagia I VOTHTEIA”, in particular, one of the most critical pillars of the National Health System in Western Greece, the Deputy Minister of Health, accompanied by the Governor of the 6th Department of Health, Mr. Ilias Theodoropoulos and the Governor of the Hospital Dimitris Bakos, visited the Emergency DepartmentEmergency Department, which is being completely reconstructed and enhanced with the construction of a new building of approximately 1.000 square meters. At the same time, he inspected the pedestrian bridge under construction that will connect the hospital with the University of Patras, as well as the building of the new Daily Care Unit “Nikos Kourkoulos”, which is a donation of the Public Benefit Foundation Ioannis S. Latsis.

During his presence at the General Hospital of Kefalonia in Argostoli, the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous, accompanied by the MP of Kefalonia Panagios Kappatos, the Governor of the 6th H.P.E. Ilias Theodoropoulos and the Governor of the Hospital Dimitris Martini, inspected the pathology clinic, which is under complete renovation, which is equipped with modern wards, new infrastructure and upgraded medicotechnological equipment.

Finally, as part of the visit, Mr. Themistocleous had a thorough discussion with the medical, nursing and other staff of the hospital, during which he was informed in detail about the issues they face.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous, said after his visits to the hospitals, “The NHS is changing in practice. With new buildings, with new infrastructure, with modern equipment. Today I had the opportunity to visit two important regional health structures, the University General Hospital of Patras and the General Hospital of Kefalonia, where extensive upgrading interventions are being implemented. However, this effort is not limited to building infrastructure and equipment. We are investing above all in the human resources of the NHS: the medical, nursing and other staff who support the daily operation of the hospitals and are at the front line of citizens’ care.

In this context, next week a new call for applications to strengthen hospitals with additional medical staff will go ahead. Through this, the Patras University General Hospital in Rio will be reinforced with 19 new medical posts, the General Hospital of Kefalonia with 7 new posts, while the Hospital of Lixouri with 2 new posts. For us there are no first and second class citizens, remote or not. Every citizen, in every region of the country, must have access to quality, safe and modern health services. That is why we are continuing our plan unhindered: to invest in a public health system that is more modern, more powerful, more efficient.”
