Washington and Tel Aviv are pushing for limitations on Iran’s nuclear programme, while Israel is on alert for possible retaliation and a new escalation.

In a particularly tense setting in Middle East, tensions over Iran’s nuclear program are returning to the focus of international developments, as Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu intensify their diplomatic and strategic pressure on Tehran. Continued contacts and close consultation between the two sides underscore concerns about the progress of the negotiations and the possibility of a deal that includes strict conditions on uranium enrichment and Iran’s nuclear capabilities. At the same time, Israel appears on heightened alert, considering that any development could provoke a reaction from Tehran or its allies in the region, at a time when geopolitical risk is rising and the balance remains extremely fragile.

Whatever Iranian response reaches the US and Israel must also address the nuclear program, Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu have both asserted. According to ERTnews’ Tel Aviv envoy George Sideris, since yesterday (Wednesday 07/05) the line between Washington and Tel Aviv is constantly open.

Israel’s position

In Israel they are learning about every single development, about these famous negotiations and say they are keeping their expectations low about what this deal will bring. They do believe, however, that if the deal is reached, it will definitely include enriched uranium and its removal from Iran.

As for Tehran’s ballistic program, which is “burning” Israel, they say meaningfully that it may concern them if there is a second round of attacks on Tehran.

In Lebanon, Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours have intensified, particularly still in the southern suburbs of Beirut, where the commander of Hezbollah’s “Radwan” special forces was killed yesterday. After this action, the Israelis say they expect retaliation and are on alert.

What we can observe is that Israel is trying to hit as many of the organization’s targets as it can at this time.

The reason is that it’s probably trying to catch up with diplomatic developments, which have to do with both Iran, and Lebanon as part of the solution to the problem, but also to catch up with Washington’s diplomatic moves, which have to do with the third round of ambassadorial negotiations, which will possibly take place on the 14th or 15th of this month, before the end, that is, mission of the ceasefire.
