Message on the EuropeEurope Day was sent by the President of the Eurogroup, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, emphasizing the major challenges facing the European Union today.

He noted that Europe was created through difficult historical circumstances, as its peoples realized that division could not lead to stability and development.

Kyriakos Pierrakakis through his statement stood on the new balances that are being formed internationally, referring to a world that is changing due to geopolitical competition, technological developments and economic uncertainty. He also stressed that Europe cannot afford to stand still or operate according to the rules of the past.

At the same time, he stressed that European strength will depend on the ability of states to move in a coordinated manner, with speed and a clear strategy.

The president of the Eurogroup also said that Europe is not just an economic union or a set of institutions, but a unique project of democratic cooperation. As he said, millions of citizens choose every day to come together despite their differences.

He also made special reference to the symbolism of Europe Day, noting that it is not only an anniversary of peace, but also a reminder of responsibility towards the future of the European community.

Kyriakos Pierrakakis’ statement in detail

“Europe was not built because history was easy for our continent. It was built because Europeans understood that division would eventually lead to decline.

Today, that lesson is relevant again.

In a world shaped by geopolitical competition, technological upheaval and economic fragmentation, Europe cannot survive through nostalgia or complacency. Our strength will depend on our ability to act together with speed, confidence and strategic purpose.

Europe is not just a common market or a set of institutions. It is the most ambitious political project of democratic cooperation in modern history: 450 million citizens choosing, every day, to move forward together despite differences of language, geography and national interests.

This achievement should never be underestimated.

Europe Day is therefore not only a celebration of peace. It is a reminder of responsibility. A responsibility to make Europe stronger, more innovative, more sovereign and more capable of protecting its citizens in an increasingly unstable world.

The question for our generation is not whether Europe matters.

The question is whether Europe can still rise to the occasion.

Happy Europe Day”.
