With a simple but highly symbolic post on social media, Ursula von der Leyen wanted to commemorate Day of Europe Day, sending a message of unity to all European citizens.
The President of the European Commission wrote on her personal account: “Today is Europe Day! Today we celebrate all that Europe stands for. And we celebrate all of us, the citizens of Europe. Because together, we are Europe. Happy Europe Day!”
It’s Europe Day!
Today, we celebrate all that Europe stands for.
And we celebrate all of us, the citizens of Europe.
Because all together, we are Europe.

Note that “Europe Day” is celebrated every year on 9 May and is a symbol of peace and unity on the European continent, as it is linked to the 1950 Schuman Declaration, which is considered the foundation of today’s European Union.
