Thomas Gerakis analyses the political scene, talking about New Democracy, PASOK and the nascent parties of Alexis Tsipras and Maria Karystianou, based on the findings of polls.

Tomás Gerakis, head of the polling company Marc, speaking to “Proto Thema”, explained that the only certainty in this volatile political scene is the lead of New Democracy and the superiority of Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the other political leaders. He stressed that at the moment N.D. is clearly above the figures of the European elections and with a double-digit difference from PASOK, but has significant losses compared to the figures of the 2023 national elections.

The well-known pollster explains that the New Democracy must appeal again to the percentage of citizens it lost and that is where the game will be decided for Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Moreover, based on the poll findings, he explained that the impact of the war in Iran on the economy and beyond worries citizens and favours the prime minister, as they trust him much more than any other political leader to be at the helm of the country.

He claimed that the New Democracy is hurt by the endless scandal, while he sees that there is a strong percentage that wants political stability and security.

Low flights for PASOK

Thomas Gerakis also analyzed the state of PASOK. He said it does not have the potential to threaten New Democracy while its second place is precarious.

He believes that PASOK along with Pleisi Eleftherias, Syriza and Hellenic Solution will be the parties that will be most affected by the arrival of new political formations from Alexis Tsipras and Maria Karystianou. And somewhere in there he explains that second place will be the big question mark of the next election.

The second place

As the CEO of Marc analyses, Maria Karystianou has a dwindling pool of voters, while those who say they will vote for Alexis Tsipras are more confident in their choice. However, he stresses that Maria Karystianou should not be underestimated because she will try to play the antisystemic card, where she can gather votes from almost all political parties. And it is no coincidence that she has stopped expressing specific political views and only speaks about justice issues.

For now both of the two political formations under formation are receiving low percentages in the sure vote, but PASOK does not seem to have the potential for anything more either. And it looks like the next election will not be about who is the winner but who will ultimately be second and who will be third.
