A preventative quarantine will be put 22 Britons who from Tenerife will be repatriated home.

The 22 Britons are on board the cruise ship Mv Hondius and tomorrow the ship is expected to dock in the port of Tenerife in the Canary Islands and they will then be flown back to northwestern England. According to the Sky News television network, the 22 Britons will be taken to a hospital in northwest England and placed in preventive isolation.

A similar quarantine has been applied to four Italians, who were repatriated and have been placed under health surveillance in the regions of Calabria, Tuscany, Tuscany, Veneto and Campania, with Naples as their capital.

These were passengers who had travelled on the same KLM airline flight and had previously come into contact with a woman who had travelled on the cruise ship Mv Hondius and she eventually died from hantavirus.

However, the World Health Organization appears reassuring and clarifies that Hantavirus is not like COVID – 19 and that its infectivity is low, despite a long incubation period of about eight (8) weeks.
